Changes in the GDC’s Overseas Registration Assessment Process

in the UK

The GDC’s overseas qualification assessment process for the Dental Hygienist and Dental Therapist application with the GDC (General Dental Council) has concluded the public review. The GDC registration for overseas qualifications comes under “the dentist’s act of 1984“, which was established over 40 years ago. The purpose of the public pole was to amend this act via public opinion and then the United Kingdom government for finalisation. The Pole was cast on 6 May 2022; During this pole, the public was asked their opinion on the proposed changes to “the dentist’s act 1984”. Based on the general opinion received and other factors, the United Kingdom’s parliament will be taking action to make amendments to this law. We are currently waiting for the GDC and department of Health to make a final decision. The current law and application process will stand until an amendment is decided and a final date is provided.
