New GDC Registration Route – New Registration Process for Overseas Dentists Seeking to Practice in the UK
As of 2023, the General Dental Council (GDC) has introduced a new registration process for overseas dentists seeking to practice in the UK. Under the new process, overseas dentists will be required to complete an online application form and undergo an initial assessment to determine whether they meet the GDC’s minimum requirements for registration. If they meet the requirements, they will then be invited to take the ORE Part 1 exam, followed by ORE Part 2 if they pass Part 1.
What about the GDC registration route for Overseas Dental hygienists and Therapists?
The registration route for overseas dental hygienists and therapists remains the same, and they will still need to pass the Licence in Dental Surgery (LDS) exam to be registered with the GDC and practice as dental hygienists or therapists in the UK. The process for LDS exam registration involves completing an online application form, submitting relevant documents, and undergoing a skills assessment before being invited to take the written and practical exams.
It’s important to note that the registration process and requirements can change over time, and it’s recommended to check the GDC website for the latest information and updates.
